These Easy Halloween Mummy Hot Dogs with Cheese are the ultimate shortcut to a festive snack that looks impressive but takes almost no effort. With just four simple ingredients and 15 minutes, you can create adorable, delicious mummy hot dogs that are perfect for Halloween parties or a fun weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 standard-sized hot dogs (beef recommended)
  • 4 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, cut into 8 thin strips about 3 inches long
  • 1 can (8 ounces) refrigerated crescent roll dough (Pillsbury recommended)
  • Yellow mustard (for eyes)
  • Optional: everything bagel seasoning or flaky sea salt for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cut a slit lengthwise down the center of each hot dog, about 80% of the way through, to create a pocket.
  3. Press a strip of cheddar cheese firmly into the slit of each hot dog, letting a little cheese peek out the top.
  4. Open the can of crescent rolls. If using perforated triangles, separate them. Cut each triangle lengthwise into 3 long, thin strips (24 strips total).
  5. Wrap each stuffed hot dog with 2-3 dough strips, overlapping slightly and leaving a small gap at the top for the eyes. Do not wrap too tightly.
  6. Place wrapped mummies on the prepared baking sheet, about 1 inch apart.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until dough is golden brown and puffed, and cheese is melted and bubbling.
  8. Remove from oven and let cool on the pan for 2-3 minutes.
  9. Using a squeeze bottle, dot two small mustard eyes on the exposed hot dog at the top of each mummy.
  10. Serve immediately while warm and gooey.

Notes

For best results, use room temperature hot dogs. Do not overbake; 10-12 minutes is the sweet spot. Let mummies rest 2-3 minutes before adding mustard eyes to prevent runniness. To reheat leftovers, use an air fryer at 300°F (150°C) for 3-4 minutes or oven at 350°F (175°C) for 5 minutes. Avoid microwaving. Assemble up to 4 hours ahead and refrigerate before baking if needed.
