A hauntingly delicious Halloween punch that’s equal parts sweet, tart, and mysterious, featuring a warm spice infusion and a dramatic dry ice fog effect. Perfect for your October party, this crowd-pleasing brew comes together in under 15 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups (950 ml) cranberry juice (100% pure, not cocktail)
  • 2 cups (475 ml) orange juice (no added sugar)
  • 1 cup (240 ml) pineapple juice
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 4 cups (950 ml) ginger ale (with real ginger)
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) simple syrup
  • 3 whole cinnamon sticks (Ceylon preferred)
  • 1 teaspoon whole cloves
  • 2 whole star anise pods (optional)
  • 2-inch piece (5 cm) fresh ginger, thinly sliced (unpeeled)
  • 1–2 pounds (450–900 grams) dry ice
  • 1 cup gummy worms
  • Plastic spiders or eyeballs (optional)
  • Ice ring or large ice cubes (with cranberries and orange slices)

Instructions

  1. Make the spice infusion: In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup (240 ml) of the cranberry juice with the cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, star anise, and fresh ginger slices. Heat over medium heat until it just begins to simmer. Reduce heat to low and steep for 10 minutes. Do not let it boil vigorously.
  2. Strain the infused juice: Remove saucepan from heat. Pour through a fine-mesh strainer into a large pitcher or bowl. Discard spices. Let cool for about 5 minutes.
  3. Mix the punch base: To the same pitcher, add the remaining 3 cups (710 ml) cranberry juice, orange juice, pineapple juice, lemon juice, and simple syrup. Stir gently to combine.
  4. Add the infused juice: Pour the cooled, strained spice infusion into the juice mixture. Stir well. Taste and adjust if needed.
  5. Chill thoroughly: Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best flavor.
  6. Prepare the ice ring: Fill a bundt pan or ice ring mold halfway with water. Add fresh cranberries, thin orange slices, and star anise pods. Freeze until solid, then add more water to fill the mold completely and freeze again. (At least 4 hours before serving.)
  7. Assemble the punch: Just before serving, transfer chilled punch to a punch bowl or cauldron. Gently add ginger ale, pouring slowly down the side to preserve carbonation. Stir once gently. Add gummy worms to the bottom of the bowl.
  8. Add ice ring and dry ice: Carefully slide the ice ring out of the mold and float it in the punch. Using tongs and gloves, add small pieces of dry ice to the punch. It will bubble and release fog. Replenish dry ice every 20-30 minutes.
  9. Garnish and serve: Float plastic spiders or eyeballs on top. Serve in clear cups. Ladle carefully to avoid serving dry ice pieces.

Notes

For a boozy version, swap ginger ale for dry sparkling wine or add 1 cup vodka or dark rum. For low-sugar, use diet ginger ale and omit simple syrup. Dry ice safety: never touch with bare hands, only add to punch bowl (not individual cups), and ensure it has sublimated before drinking. Make ice ring a day ahead to save time. The punch base can be made up to 2 days in advance.
