A quick and easy one-bowl banana bread recipe that yields a moist, tender loaf packed with melty chocolate chips. Perfect for busy days and comforting treats.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 medium ripe bananas, mashed
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour (220 grams)
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted (115 grams)
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed (150 grams)
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (175 grams), semi-sweet or dark

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease your 9×5 inch loaf pan with butter or non-stick spray.
  2. Mash the bananas in a large mixing bowl until mostly smooth with a few small lumps remain (about 1 minute).
  3. Add the melted butter to the mashed bananas and stir gently until combined.
  4. Mix in the brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract. Beat lightly with a spoon or spatula until smooth and glossy, about 2 minutes.
  5. In a separate bowl (optional), whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Alternatively, sift these directly into the banana mixture.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet, stirring just until combined. Do not overmix; a few streaks of flour are okay.
  7. Fold in the chocolate chips gently with a spatula, ensuring even distribution without breaking the chips.
  8. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan, smoothing the top with the spatula.
  9. Bake for 55-65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs. Start checking around 50 minutes.
  10. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Use ripe bananas for best flavor and sweetness. Do not overmix the batter to avoid tough bread. Toss chocolate chips in a tablespoon of flour before folding in to prevent sinking. Start checking the bread at 50 minutes to avoid overbaking. If edges brown too fast, tent with foil halfway through baking. Room temperature ingredients mix better. For dairy-free, substitute butter with coconut oil or vegan butter. For gluten-free, use almond flour but expect denser texture.
