Fun Mummy Hot Dogs: Easy Halloween Crescent Dough Recipe

Fun Mummy Hot Dogs - featured image

A nostalgic and festive Halloween appetizer featuring hot dogs wrapped in crescent roll dough to resemble mummies, topped with olive eyes and baked until golden brown.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 to 10 standard beef or pork hot dogs
  • 2 cans (14.1 oz each) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • Sliced black olives (for eyes)
  • 1 large egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water or milk (for egg wash)
  • 2 tablespoons melted unsalted butter
  • Shredded cheddar or mozzarella cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line two large rimmed baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Pat hot dogs dry with a paper towel. If desired, cut large hot dogs in half for finger-food size.
  3. Unroll crescent dough cans and separate into triangles. Cut between layers if stuck, but avoid tearing.
  4. Place a hot dog at the wide end of a dough triangle. Roll the dough around the hot dog in a spiral, leaving small gaps between layers to resemble bandages. Tuck the end under slightly to secure.
  5. Repeat wrapping process for all hot dogs.
  6. Place sliced black olives on the top section of each mummy to create eyes, pressing gently to adhere.
  7. Brush the tops of the mummies with the egg wash mixture.
  8. Drizzle or brush with melted butter.
  9. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the dough is deep golden brown and puffed. Rotate sheets halfway through baking for even browning.
  10. Remove from oven and let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

For best results, do not wrap the dough too tightly to allow the hot dog to heat through, but ensure it is tight enough to prevent unrolling. If making ahead, assemble and refrigerate for up to 24 hours before baking. Reheat in the oven at 350°F for crispness.
