A dramatic, low-effort Halloween punch that uses dry ice to create a creepy fog effect. Made with simple fruit juices and soda, this crowd-pleasing drink is perfect for parties and requires no special skills.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups (950 ml) cranberry juice cocktail
  • 2 cups (475 ml) pineapple juice
  • 2 cups (475 ml) orange juice
  • 2 cups (475 ml) lemon-lime soda (e.g., Sprite or 7UP)
  • 2 cups (475 ml) ginger ale
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) simple syrup (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) fresh lime juice
  • 2–3 pounds (about 1 kg) dry ice
  • 2 trays ice cubes
  • Frozen plastic spiders or eyeballs (optional, for garnish)
  • Fresh mint sprigs (optional, for garnish)
  • Orange slices or lime wheels (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Chill all ingredients (cranberry juice, pineapple juice, orange juice, lemon-lime soda, and ginger ale) in the refrigerator for 30 minutes before serving.
  2. Prepare garnishes: slice one orange into thin wheels, cut a lime into rounds, rinse and pat dry a small bunch of mint. If using frozen plastic spiders or eyeballs, ensure they are clean.
  3. In a large pitcher, combine cranberry juice, pineapple juice, orange juice, and fresh lime juice. Stir gently. Taste and add simple syrup if desired, 1 tablespoon at a time.
  4. Pour the juice base into a large punch bowl or beverage dispenser, filling it about halfway.
  5. Add regular ice cubes to the punch bowl.
  6. Slowly pour in lemon-lime soda and ginger ale. Stir once or twice gently to combine.
  7. Using tongs or a long-handled spoon, carefully place small chunks of dry ice (about golf ball size) into the punch bowl. Start with 1-2 pieces. Add more as needed to maintain fog effect.
  8. Float orange slices, lime wheels, mint sprigs, and plastic spiders/eyeballs on top of the punch.
  9. Serve immediately. Ladle punch into cups, avoiding scooping up dry ice pieces. Replenish dry ice every 20-30 minutes to maintain fog effect.

Notes

Never handle dry ice with bare hands; use tongs or thick gloves. Never add dry ice directly to individual glasses. Keep dry ice in the punch bowl only. Store dry ice in a paper bag in a cooler with the lid cracked open. Break dry ice into walnut-sized pieces using a hammer wrapped in a towel. For best fog effect, ensure punch is well-chilled and room air is warm. Start with small amounts of dry ice and add more as needed. Do not skip regular ice cubes. For adult version, replace 1 cup ginger ale with dark rum or vodka.
