Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 salmon fillets (6 oz each, skin-on or skinless)
  • 1 bunch fresh asparagus (about 1 pound, woody ends trimmed)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (divided)
  • Salt and black pepper (to taste)
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • Sesame seeds (for garnish, optional)
  • Fresh parsley or green onions (chopped, for garnish)
  • ⅓ cup honey
  • ¼ cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 4 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (optional, for a thicker glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil. Let salmon fillets sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together honey, low-sodium soy sauce, minced garlic, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes if using. Set aside about 2 tablespoons for brushing on asparagus later.
  3. Wash asparagus and snap off woody ends. Place on one side of the prepared baking sheet, drizzle with 1 tablespoon olive oil, season with salt and pepper, and toss gently to coat.
  4. Pat salmon fillets dry with paper towels. Place on the other side of the baking sheet, skin-side down if using skin-on. Drizzle with remaining 1 tablespoon olive oil and season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder if using.
  5. Generously brush honey garlic glaze over the top and sides of each salmon fillet. Reserve a little glaze for brushing on halfway through cooking.
  6. Bake for 12-15 minutes. At the 7-minute mark, carefully remove the pan, brush reserved glaze over salmon, and toss asparagus. Return to oven to finish cooking.
  7. Salmon is done when it flakes easily with a fork and internal temperature reaches 125°F (52°C) for medium or 135°F (57°C) for well-done. Asparagus should be tender-crisp.
  8. Remove from oven and let rest for 2-3 minutes. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and chopped parsley or green onions if desired. Serve salmon alongside asparagus with extra glaze drizzled on top.

Notes

For extra caramelization, switch to broil for the last 1-2 minutes, but watch closely to prevent burning. Pat salmon dry for best crust. Let salmon sit at room temperature before cooking for even cooking. Make extra glaze for drizzling over rice or quinoa.
