These easy ham and cheese pinwheels are a quick, 5-ingredient appetizer that’s perfect for parties, potlucks, or a lazy snack. Flaky crescent dough, creamy cheese, and salty ham come together in under 25 minutes for a crowd-pleasing treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (8 oz) crescent roll dough (Pillsbury recommended)
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 68 thin slices deli ham (Black Forest or honey ham)
  • ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a small bowl, mix softened cream cheese with garlic powder until smooth.
  3. Unroll crescent dough onto a cutting board. If using perforated dough, press seams together to form a solid sheet.
  4. Spread cream cheese mixture evenly over the entire surface of the dough.
  5. Layer ham slices evenly over the cream cheese, overlapping slightly.
  6. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella evenly over the ham.
  7. Starting from the long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log.
  8. Optional: Wrap log in plastic wrap and freeze for 10-15 minutes for cleaner slices.
  9. Slice log into ½-inch thick rounds (about 12-16 pieces).
  10. Arrange pinwheels cut-side up on prepared baking sheet, about 1 inch apart.
  11. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown and cheese is bubbly.
  12. Cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

Let cream cheese soften to room temperature for easy spreading. Chilling the rolled log before slicing helps create cleaner spirals. For best results, use quality deli ham and avoid overfilling. Pinwheels can be assembled up to 24 hours ahead and refrigerated, or frozen unbaked for up to 2 months.
