Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 cups popped popcorn (about 1/3 cup unpopped kernels or one standard bag of microwave popcorn)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (if popcorn is unsalted)
  • 1 cup candy corn (preferably Brach’s)
  • 1/2 cup salted peanuts
  • 1/2 cup pretzel sticks, broken into 1-inch pieces
  • 1/2 cup candy pumpkins (optional)
  • 1/4 cup white chocolate chips (optional)
  • 1/4 cup dried cranberries or raisins (optional)
  • 1/4 cup mini marshmallows (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon Halloween sprinkles (optional)
  • 1/4 cup dark chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Pop the popcorn using an air popper, stovetop method, or microwave. If using kernels, pop about 1/3 cup to yield 8 cups. Time: about 3-5 minutes. Watch carefully to avoid burning.
  2. Remove any unpopped kernels by spreading the popcorn on a baking sheet or in a large bowl and picking them out.
  3. Melt the butter in a small microwave-safe bowl in 20-second intervals until fully melted (about 40-60 seconds). Stir to ensure even melting.
  4. Drizzle the melted butter evenly over the popcorn while tossing gently with a wooden spoon or your hands. Sprinkle with salt (if using) and toss again until lightly coated but not greasy.
  5. Gently fold in the candy corn, salted peanuts, broken pretzel pieces, and candy pumpkins (if using) using a gentle folding motion to avoid crushing the popcorn.
  6. If using white chocolate chips, fold them in now. For a drizzle, melt 1/4 cup white chocolate chips with 1 teaspoon coconut oil and drizzle over the mix on a baking sheet; let set for 10 minutes.
  7. Let the mix rest for 5 minutes to allow flavors to meld and candy corn to soften slightly.
  8. Serve immediately or store in an airtight container. Best served within a few hours for optimal texture.

Notes

Let popcorn cool for 2-3 minutes before adding candy corn to prevent melting. Avoid making on humid days; add candy corn just before serving if needed. For best texture, serve within 24 hours. Do not refrigerate. Toast peanuts at 350°F for 5-7 minutes for extra crunch.
