A comforting, one-pan meal where ground beef, rice, and savory broth are baked together for tender, flavorful results with minimal active prep time.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound 80/20 ground beef
  • 1 cup uncooked long-grain white rice
  • 1 1/2 cups low-sodium beef broth
  • 1 medium yellow onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves fresh garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup plain tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional toppings: Shredded cheddar cheese, chopped fresh parsley, or sliced green onions

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef and diced onion for 5-7 minutes, breaking the beef apart. Drain excess grease if necessary.
  3. Add minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds to 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Sprinkle in paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Stir to coat the meat evenly.
  5. Pour in the uncooked rice, beef broth, and tomato sauce. Stir well to distribute the rice and ensure no dry clumps remain.
  6. Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the rice is tender and most liquid is absorbed.
  7. Remove from oven and let rest for 5 minutes to allow the rice to firm up.
  8. Top with optional cheese or herbs and serve directly from the skillet.

Notes

Do not use instant or minute rice as it will turn to mush. Ensure the skillet is large enough to prevent crowding. If using a non-oven-safe pan, brown the beef on the stovetop and transfer to a baking dish before baking. The dish does not freeze well; store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
