A quick and flavorful weeknight dinner featuring salmon fillets coated in a sticky, sweet, and savory honey garlic glaze. This recipe turns skeptics into believers with its simple ingredients and fast cooking time.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs salmon fillets (skin-on or skinless)
  • Salt and black pepper
  • Vegetable oil (for searing)
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 1 tbsp water (slurry)
  • Green onions, chopped (for garnish)
  • Red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Pat salmon fillets dry with paper towels and season both sides with salt and pepper.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, minced garlic, grated ginger, and sesame oil.
  3. In a separate tiny bowl, mix cornstarch with water to create a slurry.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  5. Place salmon fillets in the pan and cook for 4-5 minutes without moving them to form a golden crust.
  6. Flip the salmon carefully.
  7. Pour the honey garlic sauce mixture over the fillets and let it bubble and simmer for 1-2 minutes.
  8. Stir the cornstarch slurry and pour it into the pan.
  9. Stir gently around the fish until the sauce thickens into a glossy glaze, about 1-2 minutes.
  10. Remove from heat and let rest for 2 minutes.
  11. Garnish with chopped green onions and red pepper flakes. Serve immediately.

Notes

Do not overcrowd the pan; cook in batches if necessary. Ensure the salmon is patted very dry for a good sear. The cornstarch slurry is essential for thickening the glaze. Salmon is done when it flakes easily with a fork and reaches an internal temperature of 145°F. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
