These crispy honey garlic air fryer chicken wings deliver a shattering exterior and juicy interior using simple ingredients. The recipe uses a dry brine method for maximum crunch and a sweet-savory glaze added at the end to prevent burning.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 23 lbs chicken wings (separated into drumettes and flats)
  • 1 tablespoon neutral oil (avocado or grapeseed)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder (optional, for extra crunch)
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (low-sodium or tamari for GF)
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • Green onions (sliced, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Pat chicken wings completely dry with paper towels to ensure crispiness.
  2. In a large bowl, toss dried wings with neutral oil, salt, and baking powder (if using) until lightly coated.
  3. Preheat air fryer to 380°F (190°C).
  4. Place wings in the air fryer basket in a single layer, ensuring they are not overcrowded. Cook for 15 minutes.
  5. Flip the wings and cook for another 15 minutes at 380°F until golden brown and crispy.
  6. While wings cook, combine honey, minced garlic, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and red pepper flakes in a small saucepan. Simmer over medium heat for 3-4 minutes until slightly thickened.
  7. Transfer crispy wings to a large bowl and pour the warm glaze over them. Toss gently to coat evenly.
  8. Let wings rest for 2 minutes to allow the sauce to set, then serve immediately garnished with green onions.

Notes

Ensure wings are completely dry before cooking to prevent steaming. Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket to allow proper air circulation. Glaze should be added only after cooking to prevent the honey from burning. For frozen wings, thaw completely and pat dry first.
