Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup pumpkin puree
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 2 tbsp melted butter (for brushing)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon (for coating)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. In another bowl, cream softened butter and 1/2 cup granulated sugar until fluffy. Add egg and milk, then gradually mix in dry ingredients until just combined.
  3. Spread the dough evenly into the prepared pan to form a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick.
  4. In a medium bowl, beat cream cheese until smooth. Add brown sugar, pumpkin puree, 1 tsp cinnamon, and nutmeg. Mix until creamy and fully combined.
  5. Spread the pumpkin cream cheese filling evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Brush the edges lightly with melted butter.
  6. Starting from a long edge, carefully roll the dough into a log. Place seam side down in the pan.
  7. Mix the remaining 1/4 cup granulated sugar and 1 tsp cinnamon. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the top of the roll.
  8. Bake for 30-35 minutes until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Let the roll cool in the pan for 10 minutes to set, then slice into squares and serve warm.

Notes

Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature to prevent lumps and ensure proper texture. Do not overmix the dough to avoid a tough texture. Let the roll cool completely before slicing to prevent it from falling apart. If the dough tears while rolling, patch it with a small piece of dough.
